Longwood Park is one of my favorite parks to take the kids. The playground equipment is some of the nicest I’ve seen around here. The large “castle” playground for 6 to 12 year olds is fun to play on, and the best part is that it’s all sheltered from the sun, under a huge, blue, canopy. As of May 2009, they installed a new state-of-the-art prototype playground for children aged 2 to 5. 96% of the solar radiation is blocked by the Apollo shade system, while the children are protected against accidental falls by the Softile safety surfacing. At Longwood Park, you will find:

. canopied tot lot designed for 2 to 5 year olds
. canopied playground designed for 6 to 12 year olds
. swings
. sheltered picnic tables

. a big field
. restrooms

. basketball court
. lighted tennis courts
. nature trail

. community center
. parking lot

My only complaint about Longwood Park is all the sand in the tot lot area, although my 2 1/2 yr old son loves it, especially when I bring sand toys for him to dig with. I would prefer mulch like they have over in the 6 to 12 yr old playground. I try to remember to bring bottles of tap water with me to wash off sand from hands and feet before heading home. Other than the sand (and that’s just a personal preference), Longwood Park is one of my personal favorites. Check it out in the image gallery below…
